The Sun Rises from the West

طلوع الشمس من مغربها
Sahih Not yet

Overview

The rising of the sun from its place of setting is one of the greatest and most decisive signs of the Hour. When it occurs, the door of repentance will be permanently sealed — faith will no longer benefit a soul that did not believe before, and no good deed will be accepted from one who had not already earned merit through belief.

Primary Hadith

لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا... لَا يَنفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا
"The Hour will not come until the sun rises from the West. Faith will not benefit a soul that did not believe before."
Sahih al-Bukhari 4635, Sahih Muslim 157
Graded by: Al-Bukhari & Muslim

Scholarly Context

This sign is narrated in both Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The Hour will not come until the sun rises from the West. When it rises from the West and the people see it, they will all believe — but that will be when faith will not benefit a soul." (6:158). Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Katheer both classified this among the final major signs, occurring after the Dajjal, the descent of Isa (AS), and Ya'juj and Ma'juj.
